Meet Claudia Chennells – Cape Town Private Tour Guide

Hello and welcome!

I’m Claudia, originally from North Carolina in the United States, but South Africa has been my home for almost 40 years. During that time, I have fallen deeply in love with Cape Town, its people, and the spectacular landscapes that make it one of the world’s most sought-after travel destinations. Today, I am proud to call myself a Capetonian and to share my passion as a  Cape Town tour guide.

My journey into tourism began with a love of people, storytelling, history, and hospitality. Through my company, Mother City Escapes, I specialise in personalised, private tours of Cape Town, the Cape Peninsula, the Cape Winelands, the West Coast, and the Garden Route—all located in the Western Cape. Whether you’re visiting iconic landmarks such as Table Mountain, Cape Point, Boulders Penguin Colony, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, or the charming towns of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, my goal is to create unforgettable experiences tailored to your interests.

I believe travel is about much more than sightseeing. It’s about meaningful connections, discovering local culture, and experiencing the spirit of Ubuntu that makes South Africa so special. Every tour is designed to offer authentic insights into our history, diverse communities, natural beauty, food, wine, and way of life.

When I’m not guiding visitors around Cape Town and the Western Cape, you’ll most likely find me on my road bike enjoying some of the world’s most scenic cycling routes. After nearly four decades here, I’ve learned that no two days—and certainly no two weather forecasts—are ever quite the same in Cape Town!

I also enjoy photography, art, live music, and Cape Town’s vibrant cultural scene. From the Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concert Series to the monthly First Thursdays art events, I love sharing the creativity, energy, and innovation that make this city such an exciting place to visit.
